Based on the People’s Daily Online and Sina Weibo platforms,with the China-US trade war as the research topic,this article analyzes the content of the text(2018-2020)on the topic on these two platforms respectively.Through comparing the difference between them in terms of content presentation characteristics,the paper provides optimization suggestions for the construction of mainstream media public opinion.This article searched relevant news and microblogs on People’s Daily Online and Sina Weibo with the keyword "China-US Trade War",collected all the data displayed on the page,and finally got 6378 related articles and 92676 related microblogs.After cleaning the acquired data,this paper made a comprehensive analysis of the quantity,length,content of news reports and the dissemination quantity,subject,content of microblog,through literature analysis,the text analysis,comparative analysis and content analysis and other research methodsThrough empirical research,this paper finds that that the amount of relevant content of People’s Daily Online fluctuates with the development of the China-US trade war.When the China-US trade war enters key points,such as mutual sanctions and negotiations,the number of People’s Daily Online will increase substantially.At the specific content level,the relevant contents of People’s Daily Online could be summarized into seven themes,which are,in order of weight,domestic economic and trade development,China-US relations,trade frictions,economic and trade exchange,international voices,free trade zone construction,and China-US economic and trade consultations.Through the analysis of Sina Weibo data,it is found that the main body of publishing related content is composed of institutional accounts,opinion leaders and ordinary netizens.Among them,media organization accounts have the largest number of fans and the widest coverage;opinion leader accounts have the highest fan stickiness and strongest influence;and ordinary netizen accounts have the largest number.The number of microblogs fluctuates basically the same as that of People’s Daily Online,that is,when the content of People’s Daily Online increases,the number of microblogs in the China-US trade war increases accordingly.At the same time,the content of Weibo’s public opinion mainly focuses on six themes,which are China-US relations,venture capital,trade friction,bulk market,celebrity interpretation,and asset allocation according to the weight of the theme.Comparing Weibo public opinion with the content of People’s Daily Online,it is found that them concerns about China-U.S.relations and trade frictions have similarities,while the distribution of other topics is misplaced.The content of People’s Daily Online is more biased towards macro topics such as national construction,economic development,and international voices,while Weibo public opinion content prefers micro-topics such as venture capital,bulk markets,and asset allocation.Based on the research of online public opinion on the China-US trade war,this paper gained enlightenment: First,there is a correlation between the content of People’s Daily Online and Sina Weibo;second,positive guidance is conducive to stabilizing public opinion sentiment;third,public opinion guidance could draw support by the power of the Internet celebrity.Suggestions for mainstream media public opinion guidance: First,mainstream media should pay attention to tapping requirements of the audience;second,mainstream media should focus on speaking out on social network platformson;third,multiple parties need to coordinate public opinion governance.
