With the increasing development of higher education in China, the enrollment of the rising private colleges has been expanded year by year in order that more and more students are offered many opportunities to realize their dreams of attending school. The private colleges, almost remaining low-score ones with a low quality of the students' resource, have been equal to the college admission since the enrollment reform of national matriculation examination as well as the public colleges. The private college freshmen are more sensitive to learning, which results in the maladjustment which mostly consists of falling behind, lacking of motivation, inefficient learning, improper learning attitudes, being fed up with schoolwork and fearing study. For the problem of freshmen's learning adaptation, most of the private colleges in China usually adopt the methods of entrance education for freshman,heart-talk and psychological counseling by counselors to solve it.These traditional methods are limited in exerting students' subjective initiative and stimulating students' self-efficacy.As one of the important methods of social work, group work has the advantage of developing an interdependent and growing group, which utilizes sharing, interacting and support among group members to promote the change of individual cognition and behavior,so as to help group members get out of difficulties and enhance the social functions. Therefore, the writer tended to introduce the value concept of social work "helping people to help themselves" into the freshmen group of private colleges, and used the method of group work to intervene in the freshmen's academic adaptation. Some original, enriching and targeted group activities were organized to help the private college freshmen get rid of the dilemma of learning maladjustment in order to overcome them during the period of adaptation through the integration of related resources. This paper takes the case study of the 2019 freshmen from college A as the research object, and the writer concluded and summarized some learning adaptation problems of freshmen by the way of questionnaire survey, interview and participatory observation. On this basis, the necessity and feasibility of group work intervention were analyzed. After assessing the learning adaptation problems and needs of the group members, six group activities were carried out among learning attitude, method, motivation and environmental adaptation, that is "first acquaintance","self-cognition","experience sharing","effectivemodel","improvement of efficiency" and "growth and progress".Through the consequence of the assessment,we could figure out that group work intervention makes group members have clearer self-cognition,more positive learning attitude, more specific academic goal, and stronger learning motivation. In addition, they mastered efficient learning methods,self-efficacy,and increased time consciousness of planning and management so that their academic life had gradually come to the routine.Practices have indicated that the method of group work is effective and feasible to solve the learning adaptation problems of the freshmen in private colleges, which can provide a new mode and access to the development and innovation of the current student management work in private colleges.
