This is an era full of video, light and sound. This is also an era full of temptation and confusion. With the upgrading of the game industry, the opportunities for junior high school students to access online games are also increasing.Australia,Norway,Germany,Greece,Pakistan,Iran,Turkey and many other countries have begun to conduct research on junior high school students' online game addiction.More and more studies have confirmed that online game addiction could induce various problem behaviors easily, such as academic difficulties, social phobia and aggressive behaviors.Examining the specific mechanisms that affect adolescents' online game addiction will help researchers formulate more effective and feasible programs to intervene and prevent adolescents' online game addiction.Numerous studies have confirmed that depression is one of the predictors of online game addiction in junior high school students. However, little is known about the specific mechanism behind the relationship between the two,and they are even contradictory. Therefore, this study constructs a moderating mediation model to test whether self-differences mediate the relationship between depression and adolescent online game addiction, and whether avatar identification mediates.Depression scale, online game addiction scale,self-difference scale and avatar identification scale were used to investigate 443 adolescents in Lanzhou.First,a group test is conducted in classes. The test time is about 20 minutes, and all questionnaires are collected at once.Secondly,SPSS21.0 was used for data input and management to test the reliability and validity of the scale, demographic differences between variables and the correlation between variables. Finally,MPLUS 7.4 was used to establish and verify the structural model of latent variable causality analysis. The results show that:(1)depression has a significant positive predictive effect on game addiction;depression could predict the avatar identification positively, avatar identification could positively predict game addiction;ideal-realistic self-discrepancies positively predict game addiction;(2)avatar identification plays a mediating role in the relationship between depression and game addiction;(3)the direct predictive effect of depression to games addiction is moderated by the ideal-reality self-difference.Specifically,under high ideal-realistic selfdiscrepancies conditions, depression has no significant predictive effect on game addiction;under low ideal-realistic self-discrepancies conditions, depression has significant predictive effects on game addiction. The research results not only help to understand the relationship between depression and game addiction from the theory of self-difference theory and the cognitive behavioral model, but also have implications for guiding junior school students to use online games reasonably and serve their psychosocial adaptation.
