| The Internet is becoming more and more popular in children’s daily life and learning. The resulting Internet addiction behavior has also attracted the attention of all sectors of society, and the relevant research on children’s Internet addiction has also increased. In addition, recent studies have found that children’s depression shows a trend of younger age.Previous studies mostly discussed the relationship between Internet addiction and depression, but the longitudinal relationship between Internet addiction and depression is not clear.Whether Internet addiction affects depression or depression affects Internet addiction needs further research. The establishment of cross lag model is helpful to explore the direction of the longitudinal relationship between Internet addiction and depression.Based on this, this study takes children as subjects and uses cross lag model to explore the longitudinal relationship between Internet addiction and depression. In this study, the cluster sampling method was used to take the students from grade 2 to grade5 of a primary school in Nankai District of Tianjin as subjects. The test was conducted twice before and after, with a time interval of 6 months. The first test was in May 2019,with 1198 subjects. The second test was in October 2019,with 1197 subjects,605 boys and 521 girls. The measurement tools were young’s Internet Addiction Scale and Kovacs’ s Child Depression Scale(CDI).The results showed that:(1)there was a positive correlation between children’s Internet addiction and depression. The higher the level of depression, the higher the degree of Internet addiction;(2)Depression in children can positively predict Internet addiction, but Internet addiction can not predict the level of depression;(3)Boys’ Internet addiction and depression predict each other, but girls’ depression can only predict Internet addiction in one way,and Internet addiction can not significantly predict their depression. The conclusions of this study are as follows: for primary school boys, depression and Internet addiction affect each other; For girls, depression leads to Internet addiction, but Internet addiction does not lead to depression. This study confirms the previously proposed consequence model of Internet addiction and depression, enriches the longitudinal research of children’s Internet addiction and depression, reveals the importance of gender in the relationship between them, and also provides theoretical and empirical support for mental health education in primary and secondary schools.Based on the conclusions, the following implications are put forward for education and teaching:(1)actively pay attention to children’s mental health and detect children’s depression in time;(2)Help children form correct network understanding;(3)According to the different performance of boys and girls, implement targeted counseling and education... |
