Motivation is the internal motivation to motivate individuals to engage in certain behaviors,which plays an extremely important role in the second language learning.Since the 1950,the second language acquisition has received more and more attention from Chinese and foreign scholars and foreign Chinese learner is an important research object in the study of second language acquisition.Firstly,this paper discusses the concept and classification of learning motivation,elaborates the current research on motivation for the second language acquisition,the development on the motivation of learning Chinese as a second language at home and abroad,and explains domestic researchers' investigation of Thai students' Chinese motivation.This paper combines the current research of second language learning motivation at home and abroad and author's teaching experience as a volunteer Chinese teacher at Huasheng Middle School in Bangkok,Thailand.151 middle school students in Thailand are given questionnaires,and the survey data are analyzed by SPSS.25 software so as to investigate and analyze the motivation of Chinese learners and the correlation between motivation and academic performance of Thai students.Secondly,the survey and research process of Thai students' motivation for Chinese learning is introduced in detail,including the pre-survey assumptions,the selection of survey samples,the basic conditions of the samples,the collection and processing of data,the research results and analysis.On this basis,the main factors influencing Thai students' Chinese learning motivation are summarized,and the learning motivations of different types of students are analyzed and discussed.In addition,the correlation test is also carried out on the impact of motivation on students' academic performance.Finally,the author offers suggestions on how to improve the Chinese language learning motivation of Thai middle school students by combining educational experience at Huasheng Middle School in Bangkok,Thailand,as well as the motivation and the experimental results related to performance.From the thinking of the current Chinese language learning situation in Thailand,the author puts forward his own insights and provides some teaching suggestions to local teachers and volunteer Chinese teachers based on the experimental results.
