It has become an inevitable approach rather than an option for enterprises to improve their performance and enhance their competitiveness by using organizational networks. It is of great significance for enterprises to understand the relationship between network embedding characteristics and enterprise performance who intend to achieve their growth through organizational network. The existing research about the mechanism of network embedding characteristics on enterprise performance mostly take product innovation or technological innovation as conduction variable. However, business model innovation is considered to be an important tool to improve the survival and competitiveness of enterprises, and there is great relevance between network embedding and business model innovation in linking internal and external resource capacity, reshaping value proposition and realizing overall value synergy. The research on the intermediary effect of business model innovation on the relationship between network embedding and enterprise performance has a certain research foundation, but has not yet reached a persuasive consensus conclusion.Meanwhile, the cooperative behavior among members of the enterprise network is driven by institutional forces such as rules and politics.Especially in countries with economies in transition where the market system is still not fully established, the institutional environment faced by enterprises is particularly complex and different institutional environments affect the strategic behavior of enterprises. It is of great practical significance to explore how the institutional environment affects the effect of organizational networks on enterprise performance and there are few empirical studies about it today.Consequently,From the perspective of business model innovation, this paper integrated network embedded theory, business model innovation and system theory together and build a logical architecture of “network embedded—business model innovation—enterprise performance”which adheres to the classic research paradigm of “structure(S)-action(C)-performance(P)”.Then,this paper discusses the relationship among network embedding, business model innovation and enterprise performance, and demonstrates the adjusting effect of different institutional environment on the relationship between them through questionnaire survey and data analysis in order to provide beneficial theoretical support for enterprises to achieve growth and development through the conclusion of cooperative networks. The main conclusions of this paper are showned as follows:(1)Network-centric embedding affects enterprise performance through the intermediary variable of business model innovation, and business model innovation plays an intermediary role between network relationship and enterprise performance.(2)Business model innovation has a significant positive effect on enterprise performance and it is positively regulated by system perfection.(3)Institutional perfection plays a significant positive role in the relationship between network-centric embeddedness and business model innovation, but it does not play a significant role in regulating network-centric relationship with enterprise performance.(4)The positive effect of network relational embedding on business model innovation and firm performance is significantly improved when the system is less perfect.
