In recent years,emerging economies multinational companies(MNEs)like China,accelerate overseas foreign direct investment,overseas innovation-related activities,and constantly expand their overseas R&D network deployment to speed up the construction of overseas portfolio network.So what kind of connection and coupling mechanism between the "overseas R&D network" And "local R&D network",which needs further exploration and research.The traditional social network analysis is no longer satisfied with the complex and cross-level R&D internationalization research,consequently,this paper believes that the need for cross-level network analysis of"overseas-local" R&D network analysis.Based on this,this paper presents a framework of the analysis of the construction process and innovation performance of the overseas R&D network of enterprises from the nested network perspective through cross-case exploratory analysis,to build a nested enterprise R&D network through social network analysis,exploratively to analyze the evolution path and pattern of different technology-intensive industries' Internal and external R&D network,and try to sum up the "overseas-local" R&D network nested network mechanism.A total of 89 Chinese enterprises with overseas R&D portfolio network and 496 observations during the period of 2009 to 2016 were selected as research objects,and the nested enterprise R&D network was constructed by using social network analysis method using negative binomial regression analysis.Based on the nested network perspective,the research focuses on impacts of the construction of R&D portfolio on innovation performance,and the moderating effect of clustering,betweenness and network scale of nested network.It is concluded that the pace of enterprise R&D portfolio network has a U-shaped relationship with the innovation performance,and the clustering coefficient and the network size have significant negative moderating effect on the U-shaped relationship,while the moderating effect of betweenness is not significant.The results enrich theories of R&D internationalization and R&D network of emerging market countries,and other related theories,and provide guidance on overseas network layout optimization for MNEs.
