Land and population are the core elements in the ancient small-scale peasant economy.Changes of them directly influence the ancient small-scale peasant economy.Government behavior,accidental events and technological progress influence the ancient small-scale peasant economy through influencing land and population.Changes of them indirectly influence the ancient small-scale peasant economy.Based on the model of land-population,this paper discusses the operation of the ancient small-scale peasant economy,points out the problems: reasons,stages and lengths of the ancient small-scale peasant economy.The limitation of land eventually explain the cycle of the ancient small-scale peasant economy,government behavior shortens the cycle of the ancient small-scale peasant economy and technological progress extends the cycle of the ancient small-scale peasant economy.The ancient small-scale peasant economy experienced the four stages: depression,recovery,rising and crisis or the two stages: sustainable and unsustainable.Solving the central contradiction of land society(the limitation of land and the rising population)has the significance to solving the central contradiction of business society(the supply of market and the demand of market).The pattern of market-population is typical development pattern of modern commercial economy,market supply and market demand become the central contradiction,that is to say,supply and demand reach balance,commercial economy is sustainable;supply and demand reach unbalance,commercial economy is unsustainable.Surrounding this central contradiction,modern commercial economy have experienced economy business many times,this indicates there are problems in the current pattern of market-population.Either modifying the current pattern of market-population,or replacing the current pattern of market-population is the only path for the development of modern society.Modern economists can not view modejirn commercial economy from the future perspective.So,modifying the current pattern of market-population becomes the tasks of modern economists.
