The development of emerging technologies makes the relationship between intellectual property and international trade more and more close. The trade of products, services and various factors of production are always accompanied by the transfer of intellectual property and intellectual property is even strategically placed in international trade. The number of intellectual property rights, especially patents,is a key factor in measuring the economic, scientific and technological strength, capability of independent innovation and market competitiveness in a country or a region. Its important role in international trade has become undeniable fact. Therefore, from the perspective of patent internationalization, this article will carry out a tripartite margin decomposition of China's export trade data to further explore the impact of intellectual property rights on the total volume and path of China's exports.First of all, this article divides the existing relevant literature into two major categories: the study of the impact of patents on trade volume and the study of the impact of patents on trade margin, and analyzes this two parts of the research separately.Secondly,we define the ternary margin of China's export growth with reference to the research results of relevant scholars and decompose China's total exports into expansion margin, quantity margin and price margin with reference to the decomposition method of Ivus(2012).It also analyzes China's current export ternary margins, total export volume and export product categories at the aggregate level and at the country level.Thirdly,it analyzes theoretically the mechanism of patent internationalization on China's export trade. It mainly includes three influence paths:the influence of patent internationalization on export, the effect of patentinternationalization on market expansion effect on export trade ternary margin and the effect of patent internationalization on market margin effect on export trade ternary margin. And among them, from the two aspects of trade volume and trade interest, this paper expounds the impact of patent internationalization on export trade. Then, using the gravity model,we select the HS 1992-6 digit trade data of 30 countries or regions that China exports from 2006 to 2016 to analyze the influence of patent internationalization on China's export expansion margin, quantity margin and price margin. Finally, according to the conclusions of theoretical and empirical analysis, propose the development inspiration and opinions with a view to maintaining the healthy and steady development of China's exports.Empirical results show that, the internationalization of patents will significantly increase China's total export trade volume, and will mainly be achieved along the extended marginal path, the market expansion effect will predominate. In terms of intensive margins, there is also a significant positive correlation between patent internationalization and price margin, but Its influence on the quantitative margin is obviously negative, that is,the market power effect dominates.
