As a large populous and agricultural province in western China,Sichuan Province supports 6.6% of the country's population with 4.7% of the country's arable land. The development of the agricultural industry is related to the development of the regional economy and the stability of people's daily lives. In recent years, with the transformation of agricultural development methods, traditional high-input-type development has gradually transformed into modern production-oriented agriculture. In the process of developing modern agriculture, the contribution of agricultural mechanization cannot be ignored.Based on the Cobb-Douglas production function, the paper deduces the general reasoning of the Cobb-Douglas production function, the Cobb-Douglas production function with variable elasticity, and the Cobb-Douglas production function in agricultural production. The expression of the contribution rate of agricultural mechanization under the situation of Cobb-Douglas production function, and empirical analysis based on the provincial panel data of agricultural investment and output of 21 cities(prefectures)of Sichuan Province during 2000-2016.During the year,Sichuan Province had actual cultivated area and total power of agricultural machinery at the end of the year. There was a significant positive correlation between fertilizer application rate and total agricultural output value. The number of employees in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery was negatively correlated. For every 1% increase in the number of people engaged in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, the total agricultural output value decreased by 0.007%;when the actual amount of arable land increased by 1%,the total agricultural output value increased by 0.605%;for every 1% increase in fertilizer application, the total agricultural output value increased by 0.283%.For every 1% increase in the total power of agricultural machinery, the total output value of agriculture will increase by 0.275%.The contribution rate of agricultural mechanization in Sichuan Province to the total agricultural output value was 25.06%,this level is lower than other major agricultural provinces, indicating that the development of agricultural mechanization in Sichuan Province still needs to continue..Divide 21 cities in Sichuan Province into five regions by using relevant indicators such as natural conditions and socio-economic levels, and do not measure the contribution rate of agricultural mechanization separately. In region I,Chengdu,a core city with a high economic level and high mechanization level, contributes 41.56% of the agricultural mechanization;II,a key development area consisting of 10 cities including Nanchong and Ziyang, with a contribution rate of 30.05%;III,Yaan,The contribution rate of the traditional agricultural district composed of Dazhou and other cities is 26.85%;the region IV is the strong industrial city of Panzhihua with a contribution rate of 9.80%;V region is the undeveloped area composed of Ganzi Prefecture and Aba Prefecture with a contribution rate of 7.17%.Based on the results of empirical analysis, the following major recommendations are proposed: Development plans should be formulated according to local conditions, and the overall level of agricultural machinery and equipment should be upgraded.Take effective measures to promote the development of the province's agricultural mechanization, provide channels for the development of modern agriculture in Sichuan Province, and also provide guarantee for the speed and quality of regional economic development.
