The Impacts Of Internet On Urban Development Patterns

In China,agglomeration economies bring the growth impetus for the city,but the negative externalities of the agglomeration are gradually reflected.The technological innovation,represented by the Internet,has brought new opportunities to alleviate the negative externalities of agglomeration.Internet development on the one hand will change the urban spatial structure,ease the negative impact of agglomeration;on the other hand,will change the inter-city economic activities to enhance the urban extrovert function.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of Inte rnet development and its impact on urban functions and the mechanism of action: to study the determinants affecting the development of the Internet;to explore the impact of Internet development on urban functions,at the urban level and the urban system level,based on the cases of analyzing the impact of Internet development on urban sprawl and the impact of Internet development on urban extrovert function.This paper firstly analyzes the determinants of Internet development and the mechanism of each determinant,establishes the measurement model based on this analysis,analyzes the effect of each determinant on the development of the Internet,and identifies the key variables that cause the spatial variation of Internet development.On this basis,this paper analyzes the mechanism of Internet development on urban sprawl,establishes the measurement model based,analyzes the effect of Internet development and other determinants on urban sprawl using panel data regression method,and explores the interaction between Internet development and other determinants.After that,this paper analyzes the mechanism of Internet development on urban extrovert function,and estimates the effect of Internet development on urban extrovert function.The research results of this thesis include:(1)the core determinants of Internet development in China are city size,economy outcome and R&D capacity;(2)Internet development may exacerbate urban sprawl,but it will not bring the negative effects of urban sprawl,but will enhance the economy efficiency,quality of life and welfare of residents;(3)Internet development will enhance the urban extrovert function,which is particularly significant for small and medium-sized cities.The relevant recommendations of this paper include:(1)policy makers should support the construction of the Internet in underdeveloped areas,in order to eliminate the "digital divide" and enhance the overall social equity;(2)policy makers should make full use of the new era of technological innovation,for better development of the city;(3)governments in small and medium-sized cities should accurately grasp the opportunities brought by e-commerce,support from the policy,funding and other aspects,fully combined with local advantages,in order to promote employment and economic development.
