Nowadays,the goal of economic development in China has shifted from high speed to high quality.As the comparative advantage gradually diminishing,how to overcome the Middle Income Trap is an aporia to China.In such situation,scientific and technological innovation is inevitably becoming the new engine and new power for the development of China's economy.Thus,the government introduced a series of policies to encourage enterprises playing the main part of scientific and technological innovation.However,there are still a large number of enterprises,especially small and medium enterprises,in the technological path dependence of foreign leading enterprises.In traditional research,more emphasis is placed on achieving technological catch-up through the way along leading firms' technological trajectories such as direct technology importing.But in the long run,this approach often results in the innovation catching trap of "introduction-backward-reintroduction-still backward".In recent years,some enterprises such as GOLDWIND,HUAWEI,and Greatwall Drilling have shown unique technical advantages by technological path transforming.Obviously,their success are of great significance for guiding the latecomer enterprises' innovation catching-up.Therefore,this article will focus on the key factors and their relations influencing the technological path transforming of latecomer enterprises by analyzing typical cases,so as to provide references of innovation catching-up for China's latecomer enterprises.Based on literature review and theoretical analysis,this paper selects GOLDWIND's wind power generator,BYD's electric cars,HIKVISION's digital video monitoring equipment and Dalian GONA's high grade CNC machine tool as typical cases for the grounded analysis and gets three key factors as well as three kinds of technology route tendencies.According to the grounded analysis,this research further uses fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method(fsQCA)to conduct an empirical analysis with 41 samples to investigates the matching relationship among the factors and their influence to path transforming.Finally,two combinations that leading to enterprises' technological path dependence and two combinations that leading to enterprises' technological path transforming are obtained.The findings are as follows: First,there are configuration characteristics among the influence factors of technological path transforming.Second,the key factors influencing the technology path transforming of latecomer enterprises include entrepreneurs' attention on new technology(the awareness of new technology,the persistence of new technology concerns),external innovation resources(the availability of the resource,the usefulness of the resource)and technology environment(dynamics of the environment,inclusiveness of the environment).Third,key factors' influences are becoming stronger from path dependence to path transforming.Lastly,there is a stimulus-feedback mechanism for the key factors to technological path transforming.With certain theoretical and practical significance,this paper enriches the research of path dependence and path transforming while providing reference for latecomer enterprises to develop the innovation catching-up strategy.
