The continuous acquisition of knowledge and the constant updates of technology has become a key factor in innovation. The dynamics of the environment and the shortening life cycle of products make it necessary for enterprises to explore new knowledge and new technologies while using existing knowledge and technology, that is,to carry out exploration and exploitation at the same time. The ability to create new knowledge is the driving force for enterprises to gain competitive advantage. The purpose of this paper is to provide the correct strategic guidance for the knowledge management activities of enterprises, and to help enterprises adapt to the knowledge economy era and the fierce competition environment and promote innovation activities effectively. The knowledge-based theory suggests that knowledge is the foundation of innovation. And the background of open innovation requires enterprises must pay more attention to external knowledge search to make up for the deficiency of internal knowledge base. The perspective of ambidexterity has gradually become a prevailing research paradigm in recent years.Faced with uncertain market demand conditions and competitive industry environment, not only should enterprises make full use of existing knowledge base and acquired technology to meet current market needs but explore new technologies and search new knowledge to develop new market demand.Based on Ambidexterity, this paper uses series of statistical analysis tools such as SPSS22\AMOS21\Hayes Process212 to analyze the data about 1582 high-tech enterprises in Tianjin, and adopts the research methods such as literature research and questionnaire research to carry out empirical research on relevant issues. This study discusses the relationship of internal knowledge base, external search strategy and innovation from the perspective of ambidexterity using the survey data of high-tech enterprises in Tianjin. The empirical result shows that knowledge base is positively related to ambidextrous innovation if knowledge breadth and knowledge depth may stay balanced.Besides, this relationship is positively moderated by breadth search but negatively moderated by depth search and ambidextrous search. However, the moderation of the two search strategies is significantly different.Given the limited attention of managers, enterprises should pay more attention to the external width of the search taking care of both the width of the search and deep search at the same time.
