"Luban Jing" of the Ming Dynasty is a special book for the construction of folk woodwork in China.It brings together the experience and wisdom of the ancient craftsmen.The book records the type of the civil building,woodwork,scale,tool usage,construction procedure,and the shape,structure,scale,etc.,of household furniture and utensils.It reflects the technical level of wooden architecture and furniture.It is closely related to the people’s daily life,too.This dissertation is based on the need of inheriting and developing Chinese traditional culture.From the angle of interior design,this dissertation is based on the desk and chair class furniture of the book as the research object.Firstly,this dissertation introduces the author and edition of the Book of "Luban Jing".And this dissertation sorts out the contents and types of furniture in the book.Secondly,this dissertation adopts the method of annotating and illustrating.And this dissertation annotates the items of table and chair furniture in detail.This dissertation analyses the schema in depth.And it is confirmed by the furniture in Suzhou area.And then,on that basis,it is a principle that the design adapt ancient forms for the contemporary serve the present.It is the recovery and innovation design of the "roll stool" furniture in the book.Finally,this is a conclusion.Through the above research,it is expected to complement and perfect the study of "Luban Jing" in the field of design today.It provides a way and method for the contemporary furniture design to inherit and develop the traditional culture.
