The Historical Evolution, Protection And Utilization Of The Ancient City Wall Of Anqing

The city wall is a symbol of ancient Chinese cities.It is also a witness to the record of the times and has a high historical,academic and cultural value.As an ancient historical and cultural city,Anqing has a wall of nearly 800 years.As an important defense system and a symbol of the ancient city and the government,in those successive dynasties,Anqing City Wall has been attached great importance to its construction,repair and inclusion in the important projects of urban construction and military defense deployment.So it can become an interpretation of Anqing history and culture,and the physical evidence proves the precious historical value.The ancient city wall of Anqing began in the first year of the Jiaxi reign of the Southern Song Dynasty(1237),and its evolution was divided into three periods:the Song and Yuan Dynasties,the Ming and Qing Dynasties,and the Republic of China.During the Song and Yuan Dynasties,it was in the early stage of building the city,and it was mainly just in construction.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the city wall had taken shape.Due to the frequent wars,it entered the stage of continuous expansion and repair.In the Ming Dynasty,the brick ladling of city wall method was used in the construction of the ancient city wall.The new technology has greatly enhanced the defense function of the ancient city wall and has epoch-making significance.In addition to building ancient city walls and related annex,the Qing Dynasty also built a new moon city,which together with the ancient city wall constitutes a city defense system.After the Republic of China,due to the impact of war and urban construction,the ancient wall of Anqing was demolished.Until 1970,except for the west and north part of the city wall in Anqing,there were no traces of ancient walls on the ground.According to the field investigation of the city wall and related remains of Anqing,it can be found that although the protection and utilization of the ancient city wall in Anqing City has achieved certain results,there are still many problems.There are three main problems in protection:first,illegal buildings endanger the ancient city walls;second,the public's protection awareness is weak;third,the relevant laws and regulations are lagging behind.And It has problems in utilization too:first,the lack of complete solutions for the use of ancient city walls;second,the lack of relevant professionals;the third is insufficient funding of the protection and utilization of the ancient city wall.Based on this,the author proposes that the cultural value of the ancient city wall of Anqing should be further explored on the basis of the existing protection and utilization of the ancient city wall of Anqing.Coordination institution establishment and archaeological work should be done under the principles of suitability,integrity,openness and humanity.The organization initiated an in-depth investigation and study of historical and cultural resources along the ancient city wall.On the basis of this research,historical and cultural interpretation and display facilities should be widely set up,using the ancient city walls as a link to carry out the zoning and positioning of tourism functions for related cultural resources and heritage-rich areas.In this way,we will gradually achieve the goal of restoring,protecting and inheriting the ancient city wall of Anqing and its historical culture.
