Along with the Beijing Central Axis Application for Cultural Relics Project launched in 2011,as of 2018,14 ancient buildings were included in the World Cultural Heritage List in the overall form of "Axis".Beijing Central Axis is one of the cultural heritages that best embodies Chinese traditional urban planning thoughts,and its cultural value consideration as a world heritage and the cultural connotation of it is of considerable significance.Among the many methods of urban planning and architectural design,the central axis design method is one of the most common ways.The construction of the axis plays an essential role in shaping the basic spatial form,necessary components,and fundamental development trends of the city.The development of cities in the East and the West has confirmed the important position of the axis in the method of urban planning,laying the basic pattern of the city and affecting all aspects of the city.The central axis of Beijing was formally formed from the Yuan Dynasty.To the Ming and Qing Dynasties,Beijing City established a basic urban structure.In the modern era,the central axis that used to belong to the imperial power in the modern era is now open as a cultural space accessible to the public.The unique urban charm of Beijing City,the urban culture,urban context,civic spirit,and urban memory behind it are all inseparable from the development of Beijing’s central axis.The continuous development and renewal of Beijing City is the foundation of China for China.For the world,it is a source of Asian spirit that integrates politics,economy,culture,ecology,and art.The importance of the central axis is not only the protection of the architectural complex but the protection of the cultural values behind it.At present,we not only need to protect the carriers carrying cultural values but also to reexamine and examine the cultural values behind these carriers.In this paper,through in-depth investigation and analysis of the current situation of the central axis of Beijing,the study of urban cultural value from the perspective of public art,and as an entry point to carry out an in-depth discussion,a horizontal comparison of cases of the same construction method,and discussion of the urban cultural value The artistic transformation of the city ultimately activates the vitality of the city and the new possibilities created by the urban renewal.In the context of cultural self-growth,continue the unlimited vitality of the city.The full text is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction,analyzes the background of the proposition,expounds the purpose,significance,current situation,and method of the study,and reveals the importance of cultural value research on the central axis of Beijing.The second chapter analyzes the historical origin of the construction of Beijing’s central axis object space and discusses the transformation of Beijing’s central axis from "the axis of the emperor" to "the axis of the masses".The third chapter summarizes the traditional cultural connotation contained in the central axis of Beijing and discusses the construction of its cultural field.Chapter 4 analyzes and compares the axis space of different countries and cities,analyzes the axis space from the perspective of public art,and discusses the cultural value of the axis from the perspective of public art.The fifth chapter discusses the creation of the cultural field of Beijing’s central axis and the contemporary transformation of cultural values,combined with personal creative practice,and attempts to respond to this problem.
