Continuing Strategy And Practice Of Urban Memory About Traditional Central Axis Of Beijing

The ancient city of Beijing was once called "the incomparable masterpiece of the ancient Chinese capital" by Liang Si Cheng,and the soul that guides the whole city is the central axis of Beijing,representing the distinctive urban image and cultural characteristics of Beijing.After more than 700 years of development,the traditional central axis of Beijing connects 7.8 kilometers of magnificent buildings and urban space,making the entire old city of Beijing full of rhythm,harmony,symbolism and ritual,which to a certain extent continues the capital center of oriental civilization and reflects the continuous inheritance and development of Chinese civilization for 5,000 years.In different time,the central axis of Beijing is witnessing and representing the traces of Beijing’s urban development.It is a "living" heritage that has been continuing.Cities survive on memory,which is a dynamic process of continuous evolution that encapsulates the city’s past and history,while also guiding the future and development of the city.Therefore,from the perspective of continuation in urban cultural,this paper introduces the theory of urban memory,interprets the current situation of memory cognition and cultural heritage value of Beijing’s traditional central axis cities from the angle of official and public dimensions,and promotes the readability of Beijing urban culture and increases residents’ sense of urban identity on a larger scale.First of all,the paper clarifies the background,research object,research status,purpose and significance of the selected topic,determines the research method and basic framework,and lays the foundation for the development of the following article.Secondly,according to the relevant concepts of urban memory,this paper constructs two major memory systems,"top-down" and "bottom-up".Starting from the "top-down" urban memory system,we sort out the emotional attitudes towards the central axis at the official level and the memory object elements concerned at the official level under the influence of traditional ethics,government environment and local texts,and summarize the content and problems of the system’ operation;from the "bottom-up" urban memory system,through media texts,resident interviews and questionnaires,we sort out the public-level cognition of the memory elements of the traditional axis of Beijing at the public level,and quantitatively analyze the factors affecting memory in combination with data.Finally,this paper synthesizes the problems arising from the operation of the two major systems,proposes a "top-down" urban memory continuation strategy,and combines its own experience to carry out the relevant practice of "bottom-up" urban memory continuation.
