Objective:To observe the clinical effect of berberine on chronic glomerulonephritis(CGN)with damp heat syndrome and the effects of 24h urinary protein and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF).Methods:60 patients who met the diagnostic criteria of CGN western medicine and TCM damp heat syndrome were selected. They were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with irbesartan, and the treatment group was treated with Berberine Hydrochloride Tablets, and the observation period of the two groups was 8 weeks. The symptoms, signs, clinical biochemical indexes,24h urine protein quantitative and blood VEGF changes were observed before and after treatment in the two groups.Results:1.TCM syndrome curative effect evaluation:the two groups both improved the clinical symptoms of TCM,the treatment group's curative effect was better than that of the control group, there was a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.01).The improvement of treatment group of urine, urine hot,dry mouth was significantly better than the control group(P<0.01),the improvement of their counterparts in the sticky, eat less is also better than the control group(P<0.05).The two groups had obviously improved effect on edema, and there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P>0.05).2.The improvement of proteinuria:the treatment group and the control group had significant improvement in 24h albuminuria and urine protein qualitatively, with statistically significant difference(P<0.01).The effect of treatment group on 24h proteinuria and qualitative improvement of urine protein was significantly better than that in the control group(P<0.01).3.Effects of the level of blood VEGF:After treatment, the level of VEGF in the two groups was significantly lower than before treatment(P<0.01),and the effect of lowering blood VEGF level in the treatment group was significantly stronger than that in the control group(P<0.01).4.The correlation between serum VEGF and 24h urinary protein quantitation:Before treatment,24h urine protein and blood VEGF were positively correlated(P<0.01).Conclusion:Berberine can significantly improve the damp heat syndrome of chronic nephritis patients with urine, urine hot,dry mouth, sticky mouth and other symptoms, reduce proteinuria, reduce the level of serum VEGF,delaying the progress to end-stage renal disease, and no obvious adverse reactions,it is worthy of further clinical research.
