Clinical Observation Of Baojing Guyuan Decoction In The Treatment Of Male Infertility With Abnormal DFI

OBJECTIVE: By observing the effect of Baojing Guyuan decoction on sperm DNA integrity in male infertility patients with abnormal DFI thus aiming to discuss the mechanism and treatment of sperm DNA damage and male infertility.METHODOLOGY: 25 cases of male infertility with abnormal DFI were treated with Baojing Guyuan decoction granules by oral administration.Using 3 months as a course of treatment,a total of 3 months treatment was performed.(1)Routine semen examination and DFI tests were performed before and after treatment.(2)Patients were evaluated with TCM symptoms score for a course of 3 months before and after treatment.(3)The data were processed using SPSS 20.0 software,and measurement data were expressed as mean ±standard deviation(x ±s).For non-parametric data,the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to test for significance,and the paired t-test was used for normally distributed data.RESULTS: After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean percentage of grade A spermatozoa increased to 22.61±16.64.There was a significant difference between the mean value of percentage of grade A sperm before and after treatment(p < 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean percentage of grade B spermatozoa increased to 11.98±8.17.There was no significant difference between the mean before and after treatment(p > 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean percentage of,grade A+B+C spermatozoa increased to 45.52±28.78.There was a significant difference between the mean value of percentage of grade A+B+C spermatozoa before and after treatment(p < 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean volume of semen increased to 3.42 ±1.30.There was no significant difference between the mean volume of semen before and after treatment(p > 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean sperm concentration decreased to 41.37 ±28.54.There was no significant difference between the mean sperm concentration before and after treatment(p > 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean spermatozoa count decreased to 140.65 ±119.40.There was no significant difference between the mean sperm count before and after treatment(p > 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean percentage of normal sperm morphology increased to 29.51 ±27.17.The mean percentage of normal sperm morphology was significantly different before and after treatment(p < 0.05).After taking Baojing Guyuan decoction for 3 months,the mean DFI value decreased to 17.33 ±15.72.The mean DFI value was significantly different between before and after treatment(p < 0.05).The scores of TCM symptoms before and after treatment were as follows:Before treatment:10.64 ±6.47,after treatment:5.32 ±7.17.There was a significant difference between the scores of TCM symptoms before and after treatment(p < 0.05).4 cases were cured accounting for 16%,10 cases had marked effect accounting for 40%,3 cases were effective accounting for 12% and 8 cases were not effective accounting for 32%.Determination of curative effect using western medical standards were as follows:After treatment,4 cases were cured accounting for 16%,7 cases had marked effect accounting for 28%,4 cases were effective accounting for 16% and 10 cases were not effective accounting for 40%.CONCLUSION: Baojing Guyuan decoction could significantly improve the percentage of grade A spermatozoa,the percentage of grade A+B+C sperm,normal sperm morphology percentage and DFI values in male infertility patients with abnormal DFI,in addition to significantly improving the clinical symptoms of the patients.After 3 months of treatment,Baojing Guyuan decoction granules did not significantly improve the percentage of grade B sperm,the sperm concentration,the total spermatozoa count.The results of this prospective study verified the effectiveness of Baojing Guyuan decoction in the treatment of male infertility patients with abnormal DFI values,and because of its high clinical safety,low price and good compliance,it can be easily popularized and applied.It also validates my mentor's theory of "protecting essence and securing primordial Qi",which lays the foundation for the next clinical controlled study.
