Teaching implementation is the core and decisive element of the NewCurriculum Reform (abbreviated for the Reform) of English. In fact, difficulties andproblems encountered in the teaching implementation have become one of the majorfactors that affect the Reform. And it is especially of the case in the rural area. In thissense, it is the most impending task at present to identify the difficulties andproblems affecting the Reform in the rural area and workout out the solution.Aiming at providing an effective approach to the problem, this study, adoptingcase study as its methodology, is concerned with the application of Task BasedLanguage Teaching (abbreviated for TBLT) in classroom English Teaching in thejunior middle school in the rural area in the context of the Reform.The dissertation is mainly composed of three parts.In the first part, the theories of second language acquisition underlying TBLBand the principles of TBLT are elaborated. Besides, the theoretical relevancybetween the Reform and TBLT is clarified. In short, it lays the theoretical foundationof and practical instruction for the application of TBLT in the context of the Reform.In the second part, a case study is conducted on No.3Middle School ofHezheng County, Gansu Province, by means of questionnaire survey and classroomobservation. Firstly, the difficulties and problems affecting t the implementation ofthe Reform of English there are explored and analyzed. On that basis, the applicationof TBLT in classroom English teaching is advocated as the practical and effectiveway to promote the Reform. Consequently, the success, problems and shortcomingsin the application of TBLT in the school is investigated.In the last part, targeted at the problems specified in the previous part, thepractical significance of the application of TBLT in the junior middle school in therural area is clarified in the first place; and secondly, an experiment of theapplication of TBLT is carried out, and is followed by an analysis of the process andthe result. In summary, the study offers a systematic examination and analysis of thedifficulties and problems affecting the implementation of the Reform of English inthe junior middle school in the rural area of China, and advocates the application ofTBLT as a practical and effective way to solve the problem. Combining theoreticalarticulation and experimental teaching, it provides the basic model andexemplification of the application of TBLT in the classroom English teaching in thejunior middle school in the rural area of China in the context of the Reform andfacilitates the popularization and efficient application of TBLT the classroom Englishteaching in the rural area.
