The book Gleaning of the Past Documents has six volumes which is edited by WangZhiyuan and other people.It collects more than 2000 folk documents and the main part is contract.The patch of these documents has a great variety and a extensive region,in which Henan is the center,and there are other areas in the surrounding area.It is valuable and meaningful to subject research such as sociology,economics and philology.This thesis' research object is the book Gleaning of the Past Documents.By collecting and sorting all folk characters in this book,the author grasped the usage of them.On this basis,the author analysed characteristics and types of those folk characters further,and summarized the research of those characters can do good for large lexicography.And it also promoted the progress of folk character theory and the perfection of Chinese character phylogeny.At the same time,the author used the theories and methods of textual criticism and common philology for revising text in book one and two with emphasis.The paper is combined with two parts.One is the folk characters of Gleaning of the Past Documents.which is the main body,and the other is appendix which is folk character manual and sorting illustration.Firstly,the author cut out and handled emerged folk characters by using existing software technique.Then,the author discussed the main part on the basis of it.Part one divided into four chapters.The first chapter is introduction.In this part,the chapter illustrated the significance of the subject and elaborated research present situation of folk character.In addition,the chapter introduced general situation and characteristics of folk characters of the book.Finally,the chapter listed research methods.The second chapter is types of folk characters.This chapter combined physical truth with other seniors' conclusion,and divided them into nine types.They are ellipsis,complexes,change,apperception,cursive changed into regular script,abnormity borrow,creation,merger and synthesize.Then it proved typical folk characters by using other literature.In addition,it analyzed and explored every type of folk characters.The third chapter is folk character research and dictionary edit.In this part,the author listed many folk characters and illustrated the values and meanings of dictionary edit classifiedly.The fourth chapter is emendation.The fifth chapter is peroration.It summarized the whole text and pointed out deficiencies.
