In the second half the 19th century,Yamato-e had significant influence on the development of western paintings.however,several issues need to be explored in this regard:What role had the color language of Yamato-e played in the influence?Why do Western paintings prefer generalization and abstraction?The paper analyzed the organic connection between printers'creation and media for achieving the compressive quality,introduced the principles they follow in the use of color,and demonstrated how these principles affected Western painters to change the way color is used.At the same time,the paper introduced the internal development of the color principle in western painting and how it led to generalization and abstraction.At last,it summarized the value of color as a language in print-making.
