In the early years of the Republic of China,Chen Duxiu and Hu Shi set off a New Cultural Movement that promoted democracy and science,which influenced the spirit and thought of a generation of young people.Among them,the literary revolution is an important part of the New Cultural Movement of May 4th Movement,and the modern Chinese literature was born under the efforts of many new literati.The development of modern literature cannot be separated from the promotion of many educators and writers,and Yang Zhen-sheng is such a person who has made outstanding contributions to the development of new literature.However,with the passage of time,Yang Zhen-sheng has been gradually forgotten in the modern history.However,Yang Zhen-sheng’s outstanding contribution to the development of Chinese new literature and education should be remembered.Yang Zhen-sheng accepted the old-style private school,the new primary and secondary schools,the University and the foreign education.He became a few senior intellectuals in the period of the Republic of China,and took the spirit of democracy and science as a persistent belief.After the end of his student career,Yang Zhen-sheng devoted himself to college education.He taught and engaged in administrative work at National Zhongshan University,National Qingdao University,National Southwest United University and National Peking University.He devoted his whole life to the introduction of the modern literature into the university class and the reform of Chinese education.In the modern social change,Yang Zhen-sheng is a path-breaker of the Movement of May 4th.He practiced the spirit of democracy and science not only in the Movement,but also made the spirit of "May 4th" as the standardof his own,and embodied the adherence to the spirit of democracy and science in a number of later occasions.In thought,he has experienced the shackles of feudal ethics,sneered at the decadent old cultural morality and warmly welcomed the new bourgeois cultural ideas.In class,he taught democratic,communicated with the students equally and loved by the them;in life,he treated other people calmed and elegant,and made friends with many literati.He was very free and easy,not contending with people.As an educator,Yang Zhen-sheng absorbed the advanced school experience from predecessors.When he was the president of National Qingdao University,he made a golden period in the history of Shandong University.He governed the school strictly,made a wide range for talents,and carried out the preaching personally.In other schools,Yang Zhen-sheng is also actively reforming Chinese department education,trying to introduce modern literature education into the university classroom.He trained many new literary talents with innovative educational ideas and flexible teaching methods.In addition to the work of education,Yang Zhen-sheng also actively participated in the creation of new literary works,the editors of new literary publications and the compilation of Chinese textbooks,and used literary works to dissect society and remould his ideas with literary ideas,and devoted his life to the promotion of modern literature.Yu Jun,a representative of the anti feudal old customs,advocating freedom of marriage,reflecting the hardships among the people,has become the business card of Yang Zhen-sheng’s literary works.Yang Zhen-sheng is indifferent to fame and wealth,and loves his job much.He also has the courage to innovate,and to be equal with people,to dedicate himself without complaint.He has an indelible contribution to the development of modern education and literature in China.He is afamous educationist and writer in the modern history of China,and a representative figure of the spirit of "May 4th".However,such an important historical figure is slowly forgotten by people in the long history now,and the deep reason of it is worth exploring.Through the overall research of Yang Zhen-sheng,I hope to present a full image of Yang and carry forward his influence on history and the thinking of literature education.
