The documentary can record a certain social,historical and cultural scene in a unique and restored reality image.The Chinese-language documentary filmed by foreign countries provides us with a model of cognitive self from the perspective of the other.This thesis takes the American-related Chinese documentary since the founding of New China as the research object,discusses the Chinese national image and its historical changes constructed in the American documentary about China,and analyzes the documentary to shape the image of China from the perspectives of international relations,power game and media communication.Background and causes.Since 1949,the changes in China's image in the US-related Chinese documentary have gone through three stages: the Sino-US confrontation stage from 1949 to 1971,the normalization stage of Sino-US relations from 1972 to 2000,and the diversified image since the new century.Presentation phase.The purpose of the US-related Chinese documentary to shape China's image is to recognize China on the one hand and self-recognition through the "other" on the other.This paper is divided into the following sections:The introduction clarifies the background,value and significance of the topic,and sorts out the research status of the Chinese image in the national image and documentary at home and abroad,determines the research object and research method of this thesis,and explains the source of the research sample;The chapter explains the research framework and category design of the content analysis of the documentary in China,and conducts statistics and analysis on the survey results.The second chapter analyzes the Chinese image of the Chinese documentary in the Sino-US confrontation stage(1949-1971).The situation of "subjects absent" exists in the documentary,mainly as the political image of "Red China";the third chapter examines the Chinese national image during the normalization of Sino-US relations(1972-2000),and the perspective of the Chinese documentary Viewing Chinese history and culture,shaping a more multifaceted image of Chinese nationals,but the critique of China continues.The fourth chapter analyzes the Chinese image of the documentary about China since the new century.The number of documentaries at this stage has soared,focusing on Chinese society.All aspects of development,showing a diversified image of China,and deconstructing China to a certain extent "Stereotype";the fifth chapter discusses the background and causes of the changes of American imagery in China from the aspects of comprehensive national strength,Sino-US relations,media communication and social culture;among them,there are both curiosity and tracking of foreign cultures,and The changes in China's national power are closely linked to the development of Sino-US relations,and the United States' imagination of foreign China in the context of post-colonialism.
