This translation practice text is selected from The Evolution and Evaluation of Massive Open Online Courses published by Leonard J.Waks in 2016.The translator selected Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of The Evolution and Evaluation of Massive Open Online Courses.These two chapters give a detailed introduction to the development,the criticism from the outside world and author's response to its criticism.The original text has the characteristics of typical academic texts,rigorous language norms,strong logic and diverse sentence structures.Based on the comparison between English and Chinese,this paper summarizes the translation strategies at three levels: word,sentence and text.At the word level,it includes meaning extension and conversion.At the sentence level,it includes reverse translation,splitting and passive structures.At the discourse level,it includes nominal substitution,verbal substitution and clause substitution.Through the study and summary of translation strategies,this paper aims to promote the further development of academic text translation studies.
