In his academic thoughts,Han Yu took the revival of Confucianism as his duty in his whole life and put forward for the first time the Confucian orthodoxy theory with the promotion of Confucian sage and humanistic values as its core, providing a possible choice of cultural form for the development of Chinese philosophy and culture. In Han Yu's view,Confucian orthodoxy can be summed up in four words: benevolence, righteousness,Taoism and morality, which have already been integrated into the society. It should not only be regarded as a concept, but also an interpretation of " the teaching of the first king"." Poetry"," Book"," Yi" and " Spring and Autumn" are the continuation of Confucian orthodoxy in books.Rites, music and punishment are the inheritance of Confucian orthodoxy in systems.Princes, ministers and sons are the manifestation of Confucian orthodoxy in systems.Han Yu believed that the Confucian doctrine was different from the Taoist doctrine of " Tao" and from the " Tao" understood by Buddhism. The Confucian doctrine was spread to King Wu Wen of Zhou Dynasty from the Yao,Shun and Yu period, followed by Confucius and Mencius. It was a process of social development and historical continuation. However, after Mencius, the Confucian orthodoxy was interrupted for a time.Han Yu,as a representative figure of Confucianism in the mid-Tang dynasty, took it as his duty to rectify Confucianism, put forward the orthodoxy, faced the impact of Taoism and Buddhism, and shouldered the banner of rejecting Buddhism and the old to revive Confucianism.through his efforts, the Confucian culture was revived again in the Tang dynasty, laying an important foundation for the development of Confucianism in the song and Ming dynasties. All things can't appear out of thin air and have their specific development track, especially their thoughts. This paper starts with the formation background of Han Yu's Confucian orthodoxy, and puts forward the direct causes and ultimate purpose of the thoughts.Through the analysis of social background, academic background and the viewpoint and practice of rejecting Buddhism and Taoism,it aims to present the connotation of Han Yu's Confucian orthodoxy and its later significance.Han Yu's " Confucian orthodoxy" thoughts not only affect the development of ancient Chinese philosophy, but also have profound theoretical significance in terms of ideological content and historical function.Summarizing its thoughts and historical functions will be of some significance to the future development of Chinese philosophy.
