With the globalization of the world, museums in China have become theindispensable platforms for exhibiting and introducing our history and culture topeople throughout the world. Thus, the C-E translation of museum texts, particularcultural relics translation, becomes vital and necessary. However, due to the lack oftheoretical guidance, there are many problems and even mistakes in the translation.The purpose of the study is to explore C-E translation strategies of cultural relics inmuseum by way of the pre-translation analysis, a model based on Nord’stranslation-oriented text analysis. With the data and samples collected in JingdezhenCeramics Museum, the research makes a case study of translation strategies byanalyzing and comparing the source texts printed in the panels and the objects’ labels.Translation strategies are further suggested and applied. The study is set to make itscontribution to the practice of texts translation of cultural relics in Chinese museums,as well as broaden and enrich the scope of current museum texts translation studies. |
