| The purpose of this thesis attempts to carry out a research on C-E translation ofcultural relics and documents exhibits of Hanyangling museum from functionalistapproach with the aim to find out the underlying principles and strategies for the C-Etranslation of cultural relics and documents exhibits in museum texts and helpimprove the English versions of China’s, especially Hanyangling Museum’s culturalrelics and documents exhibits texts. First, the author looks back on the previousresearches on the translation of museum cultural relics and documents exhibits texts athome and abroad and points out their limitations.The core of this thesis is Chapters Three and Four, in which the author makes anin-depth analysis on the main features of the interpretive texts of cultural relics andexhibits in museum and explores the feasibility and necessity of application offunctionalist in interpretive texts of cultural relics exhibits in museum under theguidance of Nord’s functionalist translation theory.On the basis of the analysis, the author argues that museum cultural relics anddocuments exhibits text translation should observe the principle of “function plusloyalty†to fulfill its operative function on the premise that the translators improvetheir language competence and increase their cross-cultural awareness; and in order toreach at the intended function and aim, the translator should improve their translationability and learn more related background knowledge about the cultural relics anddocuments exhibits in museum. At the same time, the museum should enforce thetraining and management to the translators. |
