With the continuous development of social economy and science and technology, digital art and interactive experience deeply affect all aspects of human social life, and make the traditional display design change greatly from concept to form. The immersion theory put forward by Mihaly Csikszentmihaly in 1975 is devoted to the user's complete immersion in a certain situation to produce a deeper user experience. This immersion theory provides a new perspective for the interactive development of display design. The author carries out research from this new perspective.By studying the relevant literature at home and abroad, the author finds that the previous studies on immersion theory are scattered and complicated. The study of immersion theory from the perspective of display design needs to be supplemented. Therefore, the application of immersion theory in display design is of great practical significance. This study takes immersion theory as the starting point, elaborates its origin, development and current situation, and summarizes the previous research results, and puts forward its own understanding of the application of immersion theory in display design. On this basis, this paper explores the application characteristics of immersion theory in display design, expounds the value embodiment of audience's emotional effect in virtual display, and analyses the presentation of the application value of immersion theory in virtual display.Secondly, the application of virtual reality in display design is analyzed, and the presentation of multi-sensory information and the experience of virtual reality in display design are elaborated. Finally, the development trend of immersion theory in virtual display is analyzed, its advantages and difficulties are explained,as well as the development trend of virtual display design in the future.
