After the reformation of Liuqin,and developed to nowadays,it is no longer being merely an accompaniment instrument but instead becoming a popular solo instrument on the stage at once in just few decades.Meanwhile,it is a typical representative of high-pitch instruments in the traditional Chinese three-string plucked instrument with characteristics.Since the 1950 s,Mr.Wang Huiran,“the Father of Liuqin”,composed plenty of masterpieces,many professional composers are attracted to the creation of Liuqin works thereafter.Especially after 2000,its development has grown by leaps and bounds.More and more composers have been creating Liuqin works.Their works incorporate a variety of musical elements,containing a wealth of creative techniques and performance techniques,greatly expanding the species of styles of Liuqin works,and improving the artistic value and musical expression of Liuqin.In this article,the author selects three representative contemporary pieces of Liuqin composed after 2000,“Heaven,Earth and Starry Night”,“Rhapsody of Liuqin” and “Wandering on Su causeway”,which are diverse in musical styles and creative techniques.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter start with the progress of contemporary Liuqin works,to explore the two stages of development of Liuqin works from 1950 s to 1970 s and from 1980 s to now.Then,in the second chapter,the creation background,the structure of musical form,the harmony and the emotional expression of the three works are deeply researched,and the works are comprehensively analyzed.Next,the third chapter studies the application and innovation of the contemporary Liuqin works performance techniques,and gradually analyzes the six frequently used performance techniques such as vibrato,hammer-ons,pull-offs and artificial overtone in the contemporary works.Finally,in the fourth chapter,the creation ofcontemporary works is summarized from four aspects,including musical style,musical structure,the form of performance,and the difficulty of playing,to further discover the development of Liuqin works in the background of new era.The author base on personal learning and performing,to study the features of composing and techniques of performance of the three pieces.By combining practice and theories,the author hopes to provide help to performers to play contemporary works,and wishes the readers to learn more about contemporary works of Liuqin.
