Sergei Sergevich Prokofiev is one of the most important composers, conductors and pianists in the Soviet Union, and one of the most outstanding composers in the 20 th century. In the twentieth century, when many composers broke the traditional harmony norms and sought tonal breakthroughs,he still rooted in tonal music, inherited the tradition while not forgetting to weed out the old and bring forth the new,and formed his own unique personal characteristics. The Piano Concerto No.1 studied in this paper is Prokofiev's work in college. The work fully demonstrates his early creative ideas and styles, and embodies the spirit of inheritance and innovation of traditional harmony. This paper takes Piano Concerto No.1 as the research object, and analyses its harmony characteristics from two aspects of tradition and innovation. The full text is divided into four chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces Prokofiev's aesthetic concept and music style,as well as the background of the creation of the First Piano Concerto.Chapter two briefly describes the traditionality of Prokofiev's harmony vocabulary and harmony function from the perspective of inheriting tradition.Chapter III and Chapter IV are the focus of this paper.Chapter III mainly analyses the complex thinking and the "collage" mode of transfer in each part of the theme of the work from the aspect of the expansion of the mode of thinking.Chapter Four analyses Prokofiev's personalized harmony language from the aspects of chord composition and harmony progression, and explores its complex means of trichord and seventh chord,as well as its innovations on traditional functions and sounds.Starting from the two routes of tradition and innovation, this paper explores Prokofiev's individualized harmony language, reveals his creative style of pursuing individuality and his innovative harmony thinking on the basis of tradition.
