Guo Pu's Research On Disyllabic Words

Guo pu was a famous exegesis scientist,litterateur and yi scholar in wei and jin dynasties.During the wei and jin dynasties,Chinese vocabulary developed from monosyllabic to polysyllabic,and the number of disyllabic words in Chinese increased greatly.Guo pu's works,with strong contemporaneity,have retained the linguistic features of Chinese in the middle ancient period,and are ideal linguistic data for the study of Chinese history.This paper has sorted out all guo pu's works and made statistics of 3,838 disyllabic words.,including 2,242 in annotation,1,603 in literature and 162 in yi learning.In the way of data statistics,this paper analyzes the word-formation methods of disyllabic words in guo pu's writings in an exhaustive manner,which can be divided into simple words and compound words,and compound words can be divided into joint words,partial formal words,descriptive object words,supplementary words,subject-predicate words,additive words,etc.The number of disyllabic words in guo pu's works increased greatly compared with that in the pre-qin period.In addition,the word-formation mode is more mature,the number of antonyms in the joint form is increased,the meaning of partial morphemes in the formal form is more abundant,adverbs and pronouns appear in the predicative form,"quantitative complement" form appears in the supplementary form,and new word heads and endings appear in the additive form.The new meanings of 766 new disyllabic words and 69 old disyllabic words in guo pu's writings are also selected.There are many new words and dialect in annotation.Also,there are many new meanings in the literature,and the written language color is strong.New words and new meanings produce new meanings in the following ways: from the general to the individual,from the concrete to the abstract,from the specific to the partial,from causality to causality,from homology to homology,from metonymy to grammar.In addition,this paper gives a detailed analysis of some difficult disyllabic words in guo pu's works,hoping to provide some references for the study of disyllabic words in middle Chinese.
