In recent years, violent and conflict incidents occur frequently.Analysis of data shows that most of these incidents are motivated by retaliation. The reverse of retaliation is forgiveness.Research on forgiveness helps to analyze the ways to avoid retaliation.Forgiveness is the theme of the research.Through the Differential Mode of Association in interpersonal relationship, the study explored the influences of intimate degree and status of interpersonal relationship on situational forgiveness, and the mechanism of the degree of perceived hurt and anger in this influence. Two studies were included in the research.Study 1 examined the influences of the intimacy degree on forgiveness tendency under the privacy injury, the verbal injury and the breach of contract injury by questionnaires and storytelling through starting up the participants' perception of intimacy. The results showed that(1)under the privacy injury and the breach of contract injury, the intimate degree of interpersonal relationship had a significant effect on forgiveness;(2)under the verbal injury, the intimate degree of interpersonal relationship had no significant effect on forgiveness;(3)under the privacy injury, the degree of perceived hurt and anger had a significant moderating effect on the intimacy degree and forgiveness;(4)Under the breach of contract injury, the moderating effect of the degree of perceived hurt and anger on the intimacy degree and forgiveness is not significant.Study 2 explored the influences of Differential Mode of Association in interpersonal relationship on the degree of perceived hurt, anger and forgiveness. The relationship between the Differential Mode of Association in interpersonal relationship and forgiveness was explored through an experimental design between subjects of 2(intimate degree:intimacy VS alienation)*2(status:equal status VS high status). The results showed that:(1)The main effect of status is significant, and there are significant differences in the degree of perceived injury, anger and forgiveness level under the same status and high status;(2)the main effect of intimate degree on forgiveness is significant, and there are significant differences in forgiveness level under the conditions of intimacy and alienation;(3)the interaction of intimate degree and status on forgiveness is significant. The order from low to high was alienated equal status group<alienated high status group<close equal status group<close high status group. The Differential Mode of Association in interpersonal relationship has a significant impact on forgiveness. The conclusions are as follows:(1)Under the privacy and breach of contract injuries, the forgiveness degree of individuals to intimate objects is significantly higher than that of alienated objects.(2)Under the privacy injury, the higher the degree of perceived hurt and anger, the higher the level of forgiveness of intimate objects, the lower the level of forgiveness of alienated objects;(3)In the face of offensive situations, the degree of perceived hurt and anger of high-status objects is lower, and the level of forgiveness is higher;(4)In the face of offensive situations, the level of forgiveness for the alienated and same-status objects is the lowest, followed by alienation and high-status objects, and again for intimate equal-status objects. The level of forgiveness for the intimate high-status objects is the highest.Interpersonal forgiveness shows a pattern of difference.
