Research On Wang Chong's Lower Script Style

Wang Chong(1494-1533)is a famous calligrapher in the middle of the Ming Dynasty.He is good at regular script in small characters and running script,who is a creative calligrapher.Through its researches on the formation and the peak of the style of regular script in small characters of Wang Chong,this paper completes the overall network of Wang Chong's calligraphy and matches the characteristics of the style of t regular script in small characters of Wang Chong,namely the quaint subtlety,elegance and emptiness,simplicity,and innocence and study the influence on his calligraphy style due to of unsuccessful imperial examinations,family changes and inheritance from his mentor.This paper also analyzes the characteristics of Wang Chong's calligraphy from the technical level,tries to break away from the emotional factors,and analyzes the techniques of the quaint subtlety,elegance and emptiness,simplicity,and innocence in his calligraphy from the aspects of techniques,letters,and composition,etc.Thera are also the inspiration and influence on my writing of Wang Chong's techniques.At the same time,the analysis will involve some of Wang Chong's informal calligraphy writings,such as his poems on inscriptions or paintings,which corroborate his techniques in calligraphy.For the analysis of Wang Chong's style features,the number of works in the existing Wang Chong's calligraphic works of the regular script in small characters is not as rich as his works of running script in number,and there are many works that are difficult to distinguish whether they are authentic or not.This paper chooses those works which are recognized as the authentic handwritings of Wang Chong.For researches on the techniques and fonts of the regular script in small characters,if my data collection may not be sufficient for explanation,there will be selective additions to the works that are influenced by the regular script in small characters and those influenced by running script.As Wang Chong's calligraphic style is mature,the macro style layout of his regular script in small characters and running script hascertainly formed.There must be mutual influence between the two kind of handwritings.Therefore,I believes that it is feasible to corroborate each other through the common features of the two.For example,the understanding and use of "break" in the works and the understanding of "elegance" are reflected in the works of both the regular script in small characters and the running script.This is also the basis on which I can absorb the essence of those calligraphy works,providing theoretical and technical practice for my creation.
