Wang Chong is a person of decent conduct and extraordinary talent.He is skilled at poetry writing,calligraphy and painting,especially calligraphy.He has been hold in high esteem due to the achievements of small regular script and cursive writing.His small standard script,on the basis of referring to the coetaneous and tracing back to the ancient works,built an original and creative style which signified the highest level of his accomplishments.Along with Zhu Yunming and Wen Zhengming,Wang Chong was recommended as "The Three Masters of Wu".He has infused new blood into the calligraphy community in the middle Ming Dynasty,and has exerted great influences on the small regular script in the later generations.This paper is focused on small regular script calligraphy style of Wang Chong's,makes an analysis of the writing style from the perspectives of its era background,method and personal factors.Moreover,through the comparison with the styles of other calligraphers.To carry out a thorough study on the three major stylish characters,which represented as the interaction of plainness and ingeniousness,aroma of purity through etherality,and the elegance of solemnity with antiquity.Furthermore,according to the calligraphy theory and the comments from later generations,the paper summarized his artistic value and the effects on the later development,as well as the implications for us to learn about.
