Translation Report Of "Oxford Handbook Of International Relations" (Chapter 31)

This article is a translation report based on the translation project of The Oxford Handbook of International Relations and it is based on the Chapter 31,“International Political Economics”,of this book.This chapter is a very special chapter.It tells us the recent development of international relations-the emergence and development of international political economy,its academic contention and its prospects and problems.On the aspect of language features,this chapter is brilliant at using metaphors.The author's strong writing skills are demonstrated in his selection and employment of metaphors.This report focuses on the translation of metaphors in this chapter and seeks to find a proper way to translate them,so as to provide a solid basis for the completion of the entire translation project.The innovation of this article is that it gives priority to the examination of less common translation methods,including keeping metaphor unchanged with added interpretation,simile,and translating into idioms.However,this article also gives due consideration of relatively more common translation methods,including literal translation,free translation,and metonymy.With the examination and utilization of different translation methods,this paper hopes to give tiny contribution to later metaphor translations.
