As a report on Chinese to English translation practice for international publicity, the translation is chosen from the Chinese economy in dual transition written by Li Yining who is the famous economist. The book introduces the experiences and pattern of Chinese economy. This dissertation mainly selects the introduction of the book as translation practice. The report analyzes the characteristics of its language and the difficulties in the course of translation. The corresponding solution and strategies are discussed in terms with the problem.The report primarily describes "preparation before the translation" and "the practice phase" amid translation. In the former part, the author shows that it is helpful to use parallel text in translating. Also, from the macro prospect, the report lists the linguistic features of text and gives the translation principles and strategies according to these features.In the chapter of "difficulties and techniques", based on linguistic traits of article, the report analyzes some specific cases which describe the translation of words and phrases with Chinese special, sentences without subject and logical relations between sentences in one paragraph. After that, the report lists several methods in translation skill including translation compensation with cultural background and use of passive voice or "it" to supplement the subject in non-subjective sentences as well as adjustment of language order in paragraph translation.Finally, the report draws the conclusion through description of translation practice and presents some experiences indicating that a translator must be equipped with the technical background in the real translation and deepen the understanding of the two languages in the light of translation strategy and methods to enhance the quality of translation work.
