Shen Congwen's Design Art Thought Research

After the founding of New China,Shen Congwen became a cultural relic researcher instead of a famous writer.After transferred to the Museum of Chinese History,he devoted his energy to material cultural study.For a long time,The academia emphasis the study of Shen Congwen's contribution of material cultural study has been carried out from the perspective of "history".In fact,such a single angled point ignores the original intention and persistence of Shen Congwen's material cultural study from the very beginning.Whether it is to emphasize the research viewpoint that "the study of literature and history must be combined with the real things",or to focus on the practical aspects of its form,function,skill and other practical aspects,or the views on art and art education issues.All of them reflect that Shen Congwen's material cultural study has actually transcended the simple study of literature and history then extended to the field of design art.Shen Congwen not only wrote many articles on design art,but also personally participated in guiding many important design and practice work after the founding of the People's Republic of China.But so far,the academic research on Shen Congwen's design art has never been systematically carried out.Shen Congwen's practice in design art mainly includes "display design","arts design","architectural design","drama and film art design" and "design art education".Among them,"display design" is the most commonly practiced by Shen Congwen in the field of design art;"crafts design" can best reflect the research tenet of "Current for the Present" that Shen Congwen has always emphasized in material culture research;"Architectural Design" and "drama and film art design" reflect Shen Congwen's love for "national form";"design art education" is the most important value of Shen Congwen.Shen Congwen is not an educator in the strict sense,but has a strong sense of responsibility for the development of art education.Therefore,all the Art practice of Shen Congwen eventually returned to the art education issues,and design art is no exception.Shen Congwen's design art ideas can be summarized as three aspects: "The basis of design:using the emotions to create the ingenuity","The way of design:learning from the excellent heritage","The function of design:serving the 'new needs' "."using the emotions to create the ingenuity" always runs through Shen Congwen's aesthetic ideas.In the art of design,Shen Congwen believed that design art does not lack superb skills,nor is it lack of gorgeous materials.What is really lacking is just like a "GEEK",generally devoted to extensive learning and thinking,even constantly trying,it also seems never to reduce emotions."Learning from the excellent heritage" advocates that the art practitioners can explore from the traditional handicrafts,fully grasp and combine them with the real situation to renovate and use them,embodying the thought of "the ancient is used today" in Shen Congwen's material culture research;the new needs of "service" '" Shen Congwen proposed that the society was full of "waste of resources" that were not conducive to production,"be impractical and foolish" did not conform to the people's aesthetics,"single form" is not conducive to the spread of national culture.Shen Congwen's design art ideas has its unique aesthetic style and strong spirit of the times.Although there are many problems in it,such as the lack of clarity in the usage of "degree" or the neglect of the needs of consumers except the working people.Many of its design art views and design art education views still have guiding significance for the present,such as taking "emotion" as the basis of design art,should be widely combined with various disciplines and skills,the view of domain knowledge and the view that design art practitioners advocated in design art education should conduct literary and historical research are still of guiding significance for the present.
