Chinese landscape painting is a work in which painter uses ink to depict the landscape.It appeared in Wei-Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties,at which time it has not been completely extracted from the figure painting.During Sui and Tang period,it gradually became independent.During the five dynasties and ten kingdoms period,landscape painting developed and matured,then it became an important branch of Chinese painting and influenced later generations.The landscape painting is not only the depiction of the scene and people,but also the image representation of the inner thought.It has unique features,during which the image of people traveling on donkeys is common.Although the images of literati riding donkeys in the Tang and Song dynasties have attracted the attention of some scholars,the current research mainly involves the graphic analysis and reason discussion of the images,as well as the corresponding image expression of poets riding donkeys in poetry.There is little research on it's general phenomenon,origin,social background and the change of literati's thoughts in the Tang and Song dynasties.Consequently,this paper will explore the ideological origin,literati riding donkey image to the essence of a more comprehensive study,through literature and image search,statistics,correspondence,analysis of the macro background.The first,second,third chapters of this article starts with images of literati riding donkeys.At the same time,the author discusses the social background of the author's riding on the donkey's image from the aspects of the horse power and the imperial examination.The fourth and fifth chapters of this paper,aiming at the problems found in the first three chapters,that is,after the appearance of the man on donkey image,literati riding donkeys has undergone tremendous changes.From the passive shame of literati,donkey riding has become an active search for intimate friends and a resonance of identity construction in the cultural group.In this case,the image of literati riding donkey is no longer simply the image description of body travel,but the emotional expression of inner travel.This cultural group uses certain typical symbol elements as the emotion to express the inner thought.The man riding donkey is one of the elements,the plum blossom,orchid,bamboo,chrysanthemum,the grass hall,the strange stone also has the same meaning.It is an important part of the social transformation in the Tang and Song Dynasties,and it has far-reaching influence on later generations.At the same time,according to the textual research on the "Jiangfanlougetu",by comparing the heights of donkeys,horses and humans in Chinese paintings,and combining with the comprehensive analysis of specific packs,the image discrimination of donkeys in riding animals is carried out.This paper finds that the historical value of the image of the literati on donkey is re-defined.
