Research On Chen Tianxiang's "Four Books Discrimination·Mencius Discrimination"

Chen Tianxiang was one of scholars who Correct Zhu Xi's ideas under the academic background of following Zhu's thoughts in early Yuan Dynasty.In the ear of his life,Cheng Zhu Neo-Confucianism spread from the South to the North.One account of the northern and southern academic thought's interchange and the officialization of neo-Confucianism,the Neo-Confucianism of Zhu Xi's theory was designated as the imperial examination procedure.Under the impact of the new different academic ideas,he upheld the traditional academic attitude which was inherent in the North,insisted on exegetical documents with the testimony as the main body,and absorbed the philosophical construction based on the semantic principles and mental activities of Song Dynasty.The two were organically integrated to form unique academic characteristics.His works only existed in the Discrimination of Four Books,and the Discrimination of Mencius was of great value to the understanding of Mencius theory in Yuan Dynasty.However,at present,the academic community has not conducted in-depth.meticulous and comprehensive research on Chen Tianxiang's Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books.Therefore,this thesis attempts to conduct a more comprehensive and objective analysis and research so as to contributes to the study of the academy in Mencius theory and Yuan Dynasty.This paper studies Chen Tianxiang's Discrimination o.f Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books from the perpective textual and theoretical research.It affirms its value and points out its shortcomings.In introduction,this thesis briefly explains the reasons for the selection,research significance,status,ideas and methods and reveals the value of the research.Chapter one is the literature review of Confucianism in the Yuan Dynasty and Mencius.It mainly introduces the academic background of the Southern and Northern in Yuan Dynasty and the transformation of representative scholars' tendencies after the reunification of the north and the South.At the same time,it elaborates on the works of Mencius in Yuan Dynasty and draws the masters' map related to Mencius works and lays the foundation of studying the academic schools and inherited relationship of Chen Tianxiang.Chapter two is the author of the Discrimination of Four Books.Because the author of Discrimination of Four Books is controversial,the author is examined and the author's official experience and academic situation are introduced in detail.According to the textual research,the author of Discrimination of Four Books is Chen Tianxiang.Chapter three introduces different version of Discrimination of Four Books and the content of comments in Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books.It describes the circulation of the version of Discrimination of Four Books and tests the issue of the burning his manuscripts.Through the comparative study of Mencius Set Notes in Four Books and Chapters Set Notes and Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books,it can be seen that the inheritance and changes of the latter on the former.Chapter four is the study of the textual research of Mencius by Chen Tianxiang's Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books.In the chapter,it introduces and analyzes from the following three aspects i.e.differentiating the meaning of the words,the doubt of the system and the doubt of the text.Meanwhile,it summarizes its characteristics and points out its shortcomings.Chapter five is the explanation of Mencius' thought by Chen Tianxiang's Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books.This chapter introduces Chen Tianxiang's interpretation of Mencius' thought from the aspects of disposition and kingcraft and evaluates his interpretation.In a nutshell,Chen Tianxiang's Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books involves both the theory of righteousness and the textual research.In the process of refuting Zhu Xi's annotations and interpreting the scriptures of Mencius,he can boldly jump out of the barriers of Neo-Confucianism of Zhu Xi to explain new ideas,because of different knowledge structures and different perspectives,there are some omissions.It has its academic value and theoretical significance for us to study Chen Tianxiang himself and Mencius in Yuan Dynasty by studying Discrimination of Mencius in Discrimination of Four Books.
