Research On The Artistic Beauty And Rhetoric Of Tianxiang

Wang Anyi, as an outstanding writer in China’s contemporary literary arena,continually enriches her works’ contents and persistently pursues the unique featuresof her novels for thirty years. From early descriptive language with rich lyrical colorto medium-term complicated language of abstraction and then to recent implicit andelegant narrative language, after experiencing the variable writing style, she seems torealize the great achievement accomplished in Chinese classical novels. By drawingthe Chinese classical novels’ traditional appreciation of the beauty, Wang Anyi, usingthe concise and refined writing techniques, creates the novel Tianxiang which talksabout legendary stories of ancient Shanghai women.Under the direction of linguistics, literary theory, rhetoric and aesthetics theories,through combining the quantitated statistics and qualitative analysis, literary criticismand rhetorics,considering from the point of rhetorics, the author analyses anddiscusses Tianxiang deeply and thoroughly, trying to disclose the relations betweenaesthetics and rhetorics displayed in this novel.This thesis is divided into five parts: the introduction, the rhythmic beauty ofTianxiang, the classical beauty of Tianxiang, the ideological beauty of Tianxiang andthe conclusion. The first part briefly introduces of the novel’s contents, scholars’present research on this novel and the study method and meaning of this thesis. Thesecond part, which writes about this novel’s phonetics, words, sentences, paragraphsand chapters, mainly considers the effects of the microcosmic rhetorics revealed inthis novel; it is the relation between language forms and rhetorics. The third partmainly narrates the classical poets, paintings, operas and novels’ influence on thewriter’s writing techniques; it is the relation between the novel’s writing style andrhetorics. The fourth part, writing from the writer’s creative thinking, the novel’sdetails and the novel’s enlightenment on present society, appreciates Wang Anyi’screative thoughts on ordinary people’s life; it is the relation between this novel’s ideaand rhetorics. The five part is the simple conclusion on the former four parts and theinsufficiencies of this thesis. In this novel, Wang Anyi always sticks to an esthetical standard, that is there is aclose relation between the artistic beauty and rhetorics of the novel’s writing. It isunder this standard that this thesis systematically concludes, analyses and studiesTianxiang from the microcosmic rhetoric and microscopic rhetoric, trying to make afull understanding on this novel’s writing features.
