Intermediate Chinese Learners' Communicative Strategy Research Based On Oral Interactive Corpus

The use of communicative strategies is one of the important criteria for measuring learners' communicative competence.There are many researches on English as a second language communicative strategy,but Chinese as a second language communicative strategy is relatively scarce.As a result,some standard outlines of Chinese proficiency have only limited descriptions of spoken communicative strategies,and there is no clear hierarchy and standard assessment.Therefore,this paper selects 30 intermediate Chinese learners as the research object,and uses the two-frame framework of Tarone's(1980)achievement and reduction strategies as the classification criterion to explore the use of communicative strategies of intermediate Chinese learners.The study found:When intermediate Chinese learners use communicative strategies,the total frequency of communicative strategies and the frequency of various types of communicative strategies are roughly as follows:(1)The total frequency of communication strategies used by intermediate Chinese learners in oral communication activities is about 2 times per 100 words.(2)The usage frequency of each sub-category is:Paraphrasing:0.92 times per 100 words,Appeal for assistance:0.28 times per 100 words,Borrowing:0.40 times per 100 words,Mime:0.03 times per 100 words,Avoidance:0.35 times per 100 word.Achievement strategy usage is 1.64 times per 100 words,Reduction strategy usage is 0.34 times per 100 words;Language strategy usage is 1.95 times per 100 words,Non-language strategy usage is 0.03 times per 100 words;The use of Target Language strategy is 1.54 times per 100 words,and the use of Non-target language strategy is 0.44 times per100 words.Intermediate Chinese learners have a certain tendency when using communicative strategies:(1)Among the five categories of communication strategies,intermediate Chinese learners tend to use paraphrasing,followed by borrowing,asking for help,avoiding,and finally imitating.(2)Intermediate Chinese learners tend to use achievement strategies in both achievement and reduction communication strategies.(3)Intermediate Chinese learners tend to use linguistic strategies in both linguistic and non-linguistic communication strategies.(4)Intermediate Chinese learners tend to use target language strategies in both target language and non-target language communication strategies.The above findings provide a certain data reference for the definition of intermediate Chinese speaking level.Based on the above research conclusions and the analysis of foreign language proficiency standards at home and abroad,I established a framework of intermediate-level oral Chinese communicative strategy competency standards,hoping to play a reference role in the improvement of international Chinese competency standards.
