Yan Heming And The Technological Development Of Chinese Film

The development of Chinese film technologies serves as an indispensable foundation of the development of film art of China in the early times,and the introduction of lots of new technologies from foreign countries as well as the process of domesticating application of these new technologies cannot be achieved without the efforts from predecessors in the film industry.The appearance of sound films and color films can be regarded as two revolutionary technological applications in film technologies.during which,Yan played an important role in the transformation of film technologies.Yan Heming,a versatile talent in film technologies from the 1920 s to 1950 s,acted as an important role in the introduction of film technologies into China.He developed a photographic sound recorder called “He Ming Tong” for the domestic films in the early times,and as a technical director,he directed the first color film of China called Regrets of Life and Death.Therefore,a study on Yan Heming can not only construct the process of a person's film activities,but also display the scenes of a time so as to have a two-way deconstruction on the technological advance in Chinese films,that is,horizontal and longitudinal perspectives.This paper takes the film activities of Yan as its clue to explore the developmental path of Chinese films in the early times.In the first chapter,the thread of Yan's film activities is explored to demonstrate his experiences in the film industry.In the second chapter,the concept of sound technologies in films serves as the core,and an analysis is conducted on the domestic sound films and film sound recorders from horizontal and longitudinal perspectives.Based on the five color films of China,the third chapter talks about the application of new technologies in Chinese films.The research focus of this paper is Yan Heming,with which,a piece of the history can be reconstructed.Besides,Yan's personal experiences in film industry is combined with the overall context where the development of Chinese film technologies took place,hoping to explore a part of the development of Chinese film technologies.
