The Price of Protection: A Trajectory Analysis of Civil Remedies for Abuse and Women’s Earnings, published on American Sociological Review, is coauthored by two sociological professors of University of Pittsburgh- Melanie M and Lisa D. Brush. It mainly studies the economic loss and related problems of women subjected to abuse when they petition for an protective order. The authors use latent growth curve analysis to evaluate women’s earnings trajectories over six years. They hope that this study could draw attention of all classes of society to the economic lose and related problems of those women and help them out.The translation of this material is based on feminist translation theory and text typology of Peter Newmark. In the process of translating the text and modifying the translation, the translator obtained new understanding of translation via intensively analyzing the text and searching some related background materials.The report consists of four parts. Chapter One is a description of the translation task. Chapter Two is an introduction to the theoretical backgrounds. Chapter Three is an introduction to the translation procedures, mainly involving the example analyses. Chapter Four is a summary of the translator’s reflections on the translation practice and some difficulties encountered in the translation process.
