The unit integrity instruction has been a major area of research in primary school English teaching for its special advantages.As the theory of learning activities was proposed,the question that how to design the unit integrity instruction based on the theory of learning activities is worth researching.This paper includes six chapters.In the first chapter,the author explains the background and significance of the selected subject from the following three aspects: the guide of English curriculum standards,the need of improving the quality of primary school English teaching and the deficiencies existing in the studies of the thematic unit integrity instruction.In the second chapter,the author analyzes the historical evolution and the present situation of the unit integrity instruction and then defines the concept of the thematic unit integrity instruction based on the theory of learning activities.Besides that,the author also introduces the theoretical basis for the study,including Gestalt psychology,whole language teaching theory and constructivism theory.In the third chapter,the author carries on the questionnaire survey and interview to some primary school English teachers to get to know their cognition and practice of the thematic unit integrity instruction based on the theory of learning activities,and then analyzes the problems existing in it.In the fourth chapter,by analyzing the connection between the theory of learning activities and the unit integrity instruction deeply,this paper puts forward a teaching model of the thematic unit integrity instruction based on the theory of learning activities,which is easy for teachers to understand and operate.In the fifth chapter,after the teaching model is completed,the author puts it into teaching experiment.And then by analyzing the test results of the experimental class and the control class to verify the efficiency of the teaching model.In the last chapter,it comes to the conclusion that: the thematic unit integrity instruction based on the theory of learning activities helps to improve the quality of English teaching,to deepen students’ core competence of English discipline,and to enhance teachers’ teaching integrative ability.At last,the author gives some suggestions for the further study.
