After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the working class in China changed from the slaves of the old society to the masters of the new state. In order to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of them and to demonstrate the superiority of the socialist state system, the new China proposed the construction of “Worker Culture”.It is required that large-scale construction of Worker Cultural Palaces and Clubs will be started in cities across the country for the development of “Worker Culture”.As Shanghai is the birthplace of the workers' class in China and Shanghai Worker Cultural Palace is one of the earliest model Worker Cultural Palaces built in China, this paper takes “Shanghai Worker Cultural Palace” as an example to carry out the specific study on the production of “Worker Culture”.This paper is divided into three parts: introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction mainly explains the origin of the topic, literature review and innovation of research methods.Text mainly concludes four main parts,it starts from the origin and development of “Worker Culture”,combs the development of “Worker Culture”in socialist China in 1949-1966,namely the “Seventeen Years”,shows the relationship between “Worker Culture” and Worker Cultural Palace, and the necessity of establishing Worker Cultural Palace across the country, concrete from micro level to explore the new China “Worker Culture” is under the leadership of the party and the state, through Worker Cultural Palace of culture production and practice gradually constructed a collective identity. The first chapter discusses the concept of “Worker Culture”,traces the origin and development of the theory, and points out that “Worker Culture ” is a special product of socialist countries. It reflects the social relations of socialist countries, and analyzes the necessity of establishing a Worker cultural Palace under the social background at that time. The second chapter takes the establishment and organizational development of Shanghai Worker Cultural Palace as the context under the influence of relevant policies of “Worker Culture”,and comprehensively expounds the relationship between “Worker Culture” and Worker Cultural Palace from the background, laws and regulations, site selection and reconstruction, organizational structure and other aspects.Chapter three makes a micro-level research on the production process of the “Worker Cultural Palace” in Shanghai during“Seventeen Years”,and explores how the “workers' school and paradise” carries out the top-down and bottom-up cultural production and practice, and guides the workingclass to participate in the specific process of cultural production consciously. The fourth chapter is the elaboration of the social significance of “Worker Culture” on the basis of the first three chapters. From the general illiteracy to the substantial improvement of literacy rate, the working class has consciously and actively learned various knowledge and cultures, participated in cultural production and various literary and artistic practices of workers, and had an important impact on the consciousness of the working class and urban construction.Due to the lack of theoretical research and analysis of the concept of “Worker Culture” as a whole,it is hoped that the author's research on “Worker Culture” can provide more reflections for the theoretical research on the concept of contemporary Chinese culture.
