European integration is a typical outcome of the development of regionalism in the international community.Various theories of integration, international relations and socialism have thus developed different theoretical interpretations or predictions to explain, forecast and lead the process of European integration. The thesis focuses on the development of European integration from 1950 s to late 1990 s,during which there emerged three mainstream theories of European integration: new-functionalism,Real intergovernmentalism,Liberal intergovernmentalism and institutionalism.Although these four theories explain European integration, they have proved that they have been influenced by the US policy toward Europe and the American academic community in the course of theoretical development. Therefore, based on the theoretical basis and taking the four mainstream theories of European integration as clues, from the role of the United States in the development of the theory,it is found that the development of the mainstream theory of European integration is promoted by joint efforts. No theory can explain the whole process of European integration from the beginning to the present. It is necessary to combine the role of the mainstream theory with the mainstream theory in order to fully understand the history of European integration. |
