In recent years, with the improvement of China's economic and military strength, some countries draw the conclusion from western logic that ‘ power leading to hegemony',and fear that a strong China would embark on the path of aggression and expansion. However,China advocates seeking common points while reserving difference, which is different from the western reason of dualism. And China always insists that the improvement of strength is not inevitably accompanied by invasion and intrusion to neighboring countries.Different strategic culture between China and the West results in disparate causes of war.And different thinking points lead to different conclusions. Therefore,in order to enhance mutual trust and clarify misunderstandings,it is necessary to figure out the causes of new China's foreign wars and elaborate its strategic culture. The study of foreign wars of new China can be roughly divided into three stages which are the 1950 s,1960s and 1970 s in consideration of the corresponding domestic and international backgrounds. In the first stage,China was aiming at eliminating the security threat from the US power to the new regime. In the second stage,China was focusing on defending its own territory and sovereignty in border conflicts initiated by bordering countries. But in essence,it was struggling for opposing hegemonism of the United States and the Soviet Union. In the third stage,China was concentrating on opposing the Soviet Union's Great-Power Chauvinism by establishing diplomatic relations with the United States. The causes of the three stages are interrelated but have distinct emphases.Generally speaking, they share the same ideological implication, which is the inheritance of Chinese traditional strategic culture, integrated with new values coming from modern society such as territory, sovereignty and national state.Through the analysis of typical examples in the three stages and international comparison,we can clearly find that new China's foreign wars are mainly for the purpose of defense due to its traditional culture. What's more, the intensity and scale of China's foreign wars were limited. Before the war,China always advocated peaceful method to settle the dispute.During the war,China nevergive up reducing the intensity and shortening the span of the war,and constantly tried to promote negotiations. After the war,China withdrew its troops immediately all the time and never relied on its advantages to exploit and bully the related countries by signing unequal treaties. It is obvious from the above that China never fought for territory expansion or despoiling other countries' wealth. The foreign wars of new China were aiming at defending its own independence and security, deterring hegemonism, and maintaining world peace, which are necessary and just.
