Brexit And Its Impact On European Geopolitics

The referendum of Brexit,which occurred in June 23rd,2016,was the most sensational“Black swan”incident in that year:the majority of poll supported Brexit,Prime Minister Cameron announced his resignation,the British economy was faced with a serious crisis.Although the successor Theresa May acquired some actual achievements in the deal and final date of Brexit,a series of consequent domestic and external pressures not only caused a deadlock,but also forced Theresa May to resign.As a representative of hardliners,Boris Johnson was elected the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on July 24^th,2019.It shows that the prospect of Brexit is faced with uncertainty again.As a great incident which shock the world,its following effects made by Brexit not only have negative influence on the United Kingdom,but also have significant impact on European geopolitical pattern,including Anglo-European relations,the power pattern of European Union,Anglo-American Transatlantic Partnership,Russian-European relations.According to Balance of Power Theory created by western traditional scholars of International Relations,the essence of Brexit is a succession of European geopolitical balance of power,which has existed for hundreds of years.From a series of historical and realistic situations,Brexit can be regarded as a combination which contains a series of contradictions between the UK and EU and the dilemma of European integration,and it is also one of specific forms of worldwide Anti-globalization.As to Brexit's following influences in European geographical pattern,it mainly reflects in 3 aspects:firstly,the former balance of power in EU has been broken and the national relationship has faced with recombination;secondly,the Trans-Atlantic partnership between the United States and EU has suffered from strongly impact and appeared signs of differentiation;thirdly,Russia is facing with great strategic opportunity,and the current changed situation is benefit for Russia to take up game initiative to compete with the United States and EU.
