Research On US President Trump's "Twitter Diplomacy" And Its Impact

In 1969,the Internet was officially born in the United States.Since then,the level of information technology in the United States has been far ahead in the world.The development of network technology and the wide coverage of social media are among the top in the world.At the same time,it is also one of the countries that have realized the importance of network diplomacy and started to use social media to carry out public diplomacy.The 2016 U.S.election was known as the "social media election," and Trump defeated Hillary Clinton with more than half of the 304 electoral votes.After Trump came to power,he continued to pursue the "Twitter diplomacy" line.This paper takes Trump's "Twitter diplomacy" as the research object to analyze Trump's "Twitter diplomacy" and its impact.With the long history of using social media and the rapid development of social media,"Twitter diplomacy" is bound to play an important role in American politics.The main reasons for the rise of Trump's "Twitter diplomacy" include: the tension between trump and the traditional mainstream media in the United States,the greater communication power of social media in American society,and Trump's personal tendency to use Twitter as a voice channel.This paper selects three cases of Trump's withdrawal from TPP,Paris Agreement and Iran nuclear agreement,and analyzes how Trump,through "Twitter diplomacy",makes a public opinion campaign for the withdrawal from international organizations and treaties,tries to influence the domestic and foreign people,and provides legitimacy support for American "withdrawal" behavior by manipulating public opinion.Trump's "Twitter diplomacy" has subverted the influence of traditional media to some extent,making social communication have political influence to a certain extent.Trump's "Twitter diplomacy" is also of great significance to further explore how to balance political marketing and emotional catharsis on social media and reshape the relationship between media and politics on social media.
